The Thermo Dynamics Solar Boiler™ system is a 100% solar powered water heater for domestic hot water.

Designed and manufactured in Nova Scotia, Canada since 1981, the Solar Boiler™ System has been exported all over the world, from Siberia to Africa, The USA to Japan, and beyond. Locally, The Solar Boiler System can be found in thousands of Canadian homes and was the foundation for the award winning Halifax Solar City program first launched in 2012.

Highest Energy Rating in Canada!

The Solar Boiler™ System is the only one collector CSA certified system in Canada (SB32-9PV) and has the highest Energy Rating of all certified systems in Canada (SB64-9PV).

System Sizing

  • The One-Collector system (SB32-9PV) is recommended for homes with 1 to 3 occupants.
  • The Two-Collector system (SB64-9PV) is recommended for homes with 2 to 7 occupants.

Official Energy Ratings for the Solar Boiler™ Systems:

SB32-9PV (1 collector system) - 6.11 GJ/year
SB64-9PV (2 collector system) - 9.94 GJ/year

How It Works

The Solar Boiler™ System features a 100% solar powered pump, the Solar Pump™, an external Side-Arm™ heat exchange system pioneered by Thermo Dynamics, and the Micro-Flo® solar collector for unsurpassed heat exchange efficiency.

Light from the sun strikes the solar collector and heats the black metal Sunstrip absorber underneath the glass cover. This heat is transferred to a non-toxic anti-freeze solution (propylene glycol and water) that is pumped by the Solar Pump through the collector and returns to the Solar Boiler.

The hot glycol then transfers heat to the water in the storage tank via the Solar Boiler 's heat exchanger. The water is heated repeatedly in this fashion, until the solar tank is hot.

Conventional energy requirements can be reduced substantially by using the Solar Boiler, and on many days the Solar Boiler will provide ample hot water without the backup (conventional) heater turning on. In most families, the Solar Boiler will displace up to 65% of the water heating requirements. A typical system for a family of four would include two solar collectors (6 square meters), 270 litres of solar water storage and a photovoltaic module to drive the glycol pump.

Product Use

Year round domestic and small commercial hot water preheat systems. Ideal for remote locations where power electrical power consumption is limited or unavailable.

Geographic and Climatic Limitations

None. Freeze protection, using food grade antifreeze, protects the system in cold cli- mates. In hot climates over temperature protection is provided by thermostatic system shut off.

System Options

The Solar Boiler™ system is available in two formats:

SB32-9PV (one Micro-Flo® S-series collector)
SB64-9PV (two Micro-Flo® S-series collectors)

Collector mounting hardware is available for either sloped or flat roof installations. Micro-Flo® collectors are available in 1.2m x 2.4m, (4' x 8').

All systems come with a Solar Boiler™ module (heat exchanger with eMag Solar Pump™ and differential temperature controller), temperature sensors, S-Series collector(s), a tubing kit to connect the Solar Boiler™ module to the collector, and a flush mounting kit for the collector. A 270 liter storage tank is included with the system.

Warranties

Thermo Dynamics Ltd. warranties the Micro-Flo® collectors and Solar Boiler™ heat exchange module for ten (10) years, all other components are warranted for one (1) year.
